Learn To Cook Delicious Hawaiian Bread

Hawaiian bread is like Russian salad. Not that they have something to do with food, but just as Russian salad does not come from Russia, Hawaiian bread does not come from Hawaii. In fact, it comes from Colombia.

It is simply a bread filled with pineapple, ham and cheese. Obviously, the Hawaiian thing comes from the pineapple. Almost everything that has pineapple is called Hawaiian, outside of Hawaii. Starting with the pizza and continuing with the bread. Well, as always, here we have the Hawaiian bread recipe.

Recipe: Hawaiian Bread

Ingredients (for 1 loaf)

Bread

  • 250 g of wheat flour for bread
  • 100 ml of water
  • 25g butter
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • One beaten egg for glazing
  • 1 sachet of dry yeast

Stuffed

Pineapple

  • York ham
  • Pineapple chunks
  • Slices of double cream cheese or mozzarella

Process

  • First, prepare the yeast in four tablespoons of warm water with the sugar and leave it until it foams.
  • Next, mix the butter with the salt.
  • Then add the water and the yeast-sugar mixture to the flour and mix well.
  • Add the butter with the salt.
  • Mix until smooth, then knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  • Then, put the dough in a cup previously greased with oil, cover with greaseproof paper or a cloth and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour or until it has doubled in size. (In winter it is difficult to find a warm place for the dough to rise, but you can put the mug in a bowl of warm water or even on the radiator, if it is not very hot.
  • Knead again and flatten with a rolling pin on a floured surface.

On the other hand…

  • Continue, making a rectangle with the dough that measures approximately 20 x 30 cm and place it on a baking tray greased with oil or lined with parchment paper.
  • Place  a layer of cheese slices in the center of the dough and a layer of ham and pineapple on top. Then cover with a last layer of cheese.
  • On the other hand, make slanted cuts at the ends to be able to braid them.
  • Paint with beaten egg and cross one with another, first taking one from the right side and crossing it with another from the left side, until you reach the end.
  • The last tip can be folded down to close the loaf completely.
  • Also, paint the bread with beaten egg and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
  • Lastly, bake for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
